Before Christmas I announced that I would be entering the 2017 London Moonwalk marathon. If this wasn’t madness enough I then documented that I would be sharing my attempts to go from flabby to fit. There is logic to my madness though. In training for this Moonwalk I became disheartened by all of the videos of gorgeous young ladies; they seemingly didn’t sweat or if they did it looked suspiciously like they had been sprayed artfully with water. There were no angry beetroots working out. I couldn’t find many average people attempting to get fit.
Why I am vlogging my training
The reasoning behind the vlog is that I want to be inspired to work out and seeing perfect celebrities does not inspire me. Recording my journey will keep me accountable. The plan is to document what it is really like when you try to become the best version of yourself. My best version will never be super-buff, but I am hoping to be a become a fitter and more toned me. I am never going to be a Kardashian, I am never going to be an amazing fitness vlogger but I can share my journey, warts and all. I can aim to get healthier, I can try to be leaner and in the process, hopefully, become happier and more confident in myself.
This week I made my first vlog sharing my journey and it was a steep learning curve. I forgot to film half of the week and I had problems with sound. I edited a lot of stuff out as I didn’t feel confident sharing it. Next week will be better, pinky-promise. I haven’t weighed myself because I am not doing it to lose weight, I am doing to get fitter. Perhaps that is the wrong attitude, perhaps I do need to weigh myself. I have always been wary of the scales and the power they have to make us feel rubbish. I believe that weighing ourselves can actually be detrimental.
How this week went –
You can find my short vlog below and the plan that I followed beneath. Next week my vlog will be better! If you know me in real life then please don’t do it to yourself, save your eyes and don’t watch this vlog! Consider that an order.
I found this a really easy week. The plan was as follows
Sunday – Walk 3 Miles. I did this outdoors with the kids and it was lovely to have their company but they were a hindrance.
Monday – Stretch and relax. 15 mins
Tuesday – Walk 3 miles outdoors.
Wednesday – Stretch and relax. 15 mins
Thursday – Walk and run 3 miles on the treadmill. Pouring with rain outside so took the dryer option!
Friday – Stretch and Relax. 15 mins
Saturday – Stretch and relax. 15 mins.
Weekly total – 9 miles
Reflecting on how the first week went
I found training on the treadmill harder and had to distract myself with a podcast. I have also noticed that I have wanted to snack more! For a first week it has been really easy.
Targets for next week
- Eat healthier meals and snacks
- Make a proper vlog!
- Try and run for longer
