Thank you for your kind donation. If you would like to find out more about #BloggersBehindCancer, the person who inspired it and the people who helped, then please carry on reading.
Today is the day that Mumzilla and I feel like we have been aiming for over the last month. It has been a month that has been a litte stressful at times. Therefore, having #BloggersBeatingCancer to look forward to as has been a little bit of light at what has felt like a bit of a long tunnel. I couldn’t help myself, I had to throw a cliche in!
At the end of July we lost Sarah to cancer. Her death prompted me to pour my complex feelings of loss and anger into a post called There are no words. I had no idea that this post, a post where I poured my feelings of grief out would resonate with so many. From that post the idea of #BloggersBeatingCancer was formed with Sarah from Mumzilla and with the support of our little blogging tribe we got to work. We shared the news everywhere we could. We asked people to share their posts. Posts in which we asked people to share their experiences of cancer. So many of you did us proud:
- Bridie By The Sea wrote this for Meet Other Mums, she also shared it on her blog
- Sparkly Mummy
- Sarah from Mumzilla in the Huffington Post
- I was on Meet Other Mums talking about the campaign
- I chatted with Slouching Thatcham about the campaign on Meet the Parents podcast. Aime from Finding Our Feet was also talking about her amazing campaign – Bloggers for Refugees
- Mumsnet featured the campaign in their newsletter
- I wrote a piece for Britmums about the campaign
- I was on BBC Radio Jersey talking about Bloggers Beating Cancer
Sarah and I have felt so thrilled to have the support of so many organisations, bloggers and friends. It has been amazing to see people using the hashtag and getting on board.
Why are we doing this?
We all know someone that has been affected by cancer, we might have even lost a loved one to cancer. As you read this there are 2.5 million people in the UK with cancer. For every child that is born today, 1 in 2 will experience cancer at some point in their lives. I don’t know about you but that statistic terrifies me, I worry for my children. We have to do something. #BloggersBeatingCancer is a chance for us to come together as a community, an opoortunity for us to do battle against cancer. All we are asking is that you get online at 10:30am today and you share the #BloggersBeatingCancer. Also get donating here – https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/bloggersbeatingcancer We are raising money that goes towards the care of cancer patients and a charity that is working towards finding a cure. The care and cure. Cancer is something that none of us like to think about but it is something that we need to think about.
If you are at work and can’t join us online then please consider sharing what we are doing with your work colleagues. You can still donate and it is for a very good cause. If you have an understanding boss perhaps they will even let you go online. Spread the word and get everyone involved, get empyting your pockets, collect all of your copper.
Today at 10:30 am. Come online for #bloggersbeatingcancer, just you and your mates and the whole world, perhaps some coffee and cake
Anyone and everyone
Get involved and please remember to donate https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/bloggersbeatingcancer this is our chance to do something great as a community. Just do it. Do it for your loved ones, family and friends. Do it for the future.
