Sunday is one of our favourite days of the week. It is the one day where we all move at a slower pace. There are no clubs to dash off to, no early morning alarm signaling the school run and no frantic searching for missing homework or uniform. Sunday is a day to truly savour as a family. Normally, the housework has all been done, clothes have been washed and as a result there are no demands on our time. It is a day that we always try to keep free so that we can spend the morning gloriously plodding round the house. We normally start the day with a leisurely breakfast, fresh coffee and the Saturday papers are finally read. The children disappear to their bedroom, still in the pyjamas to make vast cities of Lego. In the meantime Mr C and I put music on, curl up on the sofa together and chat. It is the one time of the week where we have time to really talk. Then we normally make a fresh loaf of bread which is normally demolished at lunch when it is served still warm, with thickly spread butter rapidly melting.
Sundays feel even more special now that we live on Jersey and here are my 4 reasons why;
- The shops don’t open. That’s right. The supermarkets and most of the shops in town remain closed. Therefore Sundays feel special and different to the other days in the week. I thought that I would miss Sunday opening but I don’t, I really love it as Sunday no longer feels like a day that merges in with the rest of the week.
- Beaches. With the shops closed we head to the beach and there are so many beaches to choose from. In Yorkshire we were a good hours drive from our nearest beach. Here we can walk to a variety of beaches and be there within 5 minutes. Sundays spent on the beach during the summer. We pack a cool box, take our barbecue and we spend the whole day at the beach. Swimming, sunbathing and eating. Complete relaxation.
- Walking. There are so many scenic walks to be done on Jersey. We often spend our Sundays exploring the wooded valleys, hiking along cliff tops and exploring commons and moors.
- Restaurants. There are so many amazing places to eat in on Jersey. From Michelin starred restaurants to supper clubs in stunning locations. Most of them are child friendly. Jersey is an island full of foodies and we all love to eat out, especially on a Sunday.
Sundays really is our favourite day of the week. It is a day to enjoy. It’s the one day of the week where it isn’t frowned upon if you are still in your pyjamas at lunchtime. It’s a day to be celebrated in its glorious laziness. A day of reading magazines, eating, baking and revelling in reading. A day to be spent with family and loved ones.
Oh Sunday you are glorious. Is Sunday your favourite day of the week?

That sounds utterly blissful. I don’t think I would miss Sunday opening either - it is nice to have that one day where everything just shuts down. How lovely to be able to spend the day at the beach - our nearest beach is well over an hour’s drive away and I’m always a bit envious of all the bloggers that are lucky enough to enjoy going to the beach regularly.

Thank you Louise, it really is just blissful! I think if we moved back to the UK now we would have a shock as we just love our relaxed Sundays x
Your Sundays sound wonderful, I wish ours were as calm! Currently two of the kids have swim classes on a Sunday morning, so no lazy start for us 🙂
