The Royal Yacht Hotel, Jersey: Review

The first weekend of September saw us staying at the The Royal Yacht Hotel. For transparency - we paid for this hotel stay and the hotel didn’t know that I would be writing a review.

I love our little family, and I love where we live. Yet, there are times where I really miss the mainland. There are times where married life can feel like a slog. Balancing work and family life means that you often neglect your marriage. Your relationship takes a back seat, it’s very easy for it slip down the never-ending list of priorities. Luckily, my mum is always offering to help out with the girls and it was her that suggested we get away during the summer. Yet, we couldn’t find any reasonably priced plane tickets and hotels on the mainland, so we opted for a staycation.

We decided to treat ourselves to a couple of nights at The Royal Yacht Hotel. A last minute deal came up and we didn’t hang around, we nabbed that hotel room before someone else got their hands on it! It was also the weekend of Jersey Live, which we would be attending. We were very excited for a weekend where we would be reliving our youth, sans children.

Our first impressions

Due to the fact we would be going to Jersey Live we had asked The Royal Yacht if we could drop our bags before check-in time. They were extremely helpful and had told us that it wouldn’t be a problem. On arrival we were told that if we were happy to wait for half-an-hour, we could check into our room early. We grabbed a drink in the downstairs bar and enjoyed being able to sip our drinks without having to entertain the children! The bar was buzzing, especially when you consider that it was only midday on a Saturday. The bar is very popular with locals and it is a great place to grab a drink on a weekend. This is especially the case in the summer when you can sit outside and enjoy the view from the terrace. We were having such a lovely time that it was almost a wrench to drag ourselves away.

Our room

Our room was a Gold Deluxe Room and it was beautiful. I was wondering whether it would feel like a waste booking into a hotel in Jersey, however, stepping into that gorgeous hotel room saw all of my fears banished. I felt like I was in a luxurious cocoon. An extremely spacious room that was decorated tastefully and elegantly.

A huge bed that allowed me to starfish, without disturbing Mr C. Despite the hotel being in St Helier, it felt like a quiet oasis. We could have been a million miles away.

There was also a very spacious and private balcony with table, chairs and a sun bed. The balcony looks over the Jersey Museum courtyard, and offers a pretty view.

The bathroom was also extremely spacious. There was a bath and a separate shower. I love a bath but our house doesn’t have one, so I was very excited and did let out a little squeal when I saw it.

The feel of the hotel

The feel and the ambience of the hotel mimics a stay on a luxurious yacht. I did feel like I could be sailing away on a cruise. However, there was no fear of seasickness as this hotel has its feet firmly on the ground. It might be a luxury hotel but the staff are all very approachable and friendly, and all go out of their way to help you.

Spa Sirene

The next day we made the most of the hotel facilities. Getting into our hotel gowns and slippers and heading down to the adult only subterranean spa. The spa is a tranquil haven and we lost several hours here as we unwound and sunk into a deep and blissful state of relaxation.

There is a heated vitality pool, Swedish sauna, Aromatherapy steam room, Salt steam therapy, and Experience showers. There is also a fully equipped gym. We made the most of the heated beds that soothed our backs and restored our soul, before we stumbled into the sauna and steam rooms. Finally, Mr C swam up and down the pool as I reclined with a good novel. The stresses and the strain of the summer soon felt like they were slipping away. Spa Sirene is an award-winning spa for good reason.

The rest of the day was spent enjoying the balcony, where I read and enjoyed the view. I also made the most of the bath. Enjoying a leisurely soak without children banging on the door to be let in. Both nights at the hotel we had amazing night’s sleep. Considering that we were right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of St Helier, I was amazed that we weren’t disturbed by any late night revellers.

The hotel restaurant

Finally, the food in the hotel restaurant - Sirocco was simply stunning. I’m not normally a breakfast person, but the chef converted me to omelettes and I soon couldn’t get enough of them. Obviously, I had a side order of crisp hash browns and baked beans. It was a yummy breakfast that set me up for the day. On Sunday we treated ourselves to dinner in Sirocco and the restaurant may have been quiet (everyone was probably watching Antiques Roadshow in bed) but the food was sublime. The staff were also attentive without being overbearing. We had such a lovely and fun evening meal and we left the restaurant with very full and content bellies.

A staycation at The Royal Yacht was a luxurious treat and just what the doctor ordered. It gave me and Mr C time to properly catch-up and we came back home feeling refreshed and happy. I don’t think that we had laughed that much in a long time.

For anyone visiting Jersey, I would highly recommend The Royal Yacht Hotel. It’s centrally located, making it perfect for a weekend getaway. One day I would love to return just so that I could try out the Penthouse Suite!
