It’s that time of year again; weird things are afoot. There are strange things lurking in the shadows (no not Mr C), carved pumpkins grimacing at us from window sills and hordes of children (including my two) dressed up in scary (but actually rather sweet) costumes. Yes, it’s nearly time for Halloween. On a side note that also means that it is nearly my birthday. 21 again, that’s all I am saying.
My Memories Of Halloween
I have vivid memories of Halloween as a child. They namely involve my dad making us sit in the pitch black as he hissed at us not to make a sound, ignoring the door bell being rung for the umpteenth time. Yes, we were that family. Life would have been a whole lot easier if he had just bought a big bag of Barratt Sweets and had sent the visitors on their way. Nowadays, we do celebrate Halloween. We get dressed up and we watch a slightly scary film. I can’t handle anything scarier than a PG. We also keep the lights on and open the doors to the ‘trick or treaters’, and give them all of the sweets. We tend to have a birthday/Halloween party as my birthday is only a couple of days before Halloween.
This year we were delighted when Barratt Sweets challenged us to come up with some Halloween hacks using their sweets. We have come up with 5 hacks and have transformed some Barratt Sweets into spooky treats, perfect for a Halloween party or any ‘trick or treaters’ that rock up on your doorstep. Best of all they are all super quick and easy to make.
You can see just how easy it was to make the treats in the video below. Beware though, there might be some screaming in the video as the children were very good at scaring me! You can find the recipes for the hacks beneath the video
5 Hacks For Halloween
Hack 1 - Witches’ Fingers
Ingredients
1 x Pack Of Sponge Fingers
1 x Pack Of White Chocolate
1 x Pack Of Barratt Black Jacks
Method
Carefully create a whole in the top of your sponge finger. This is where you will be inserting your witch’s black nail. You then need to melt your white chocolate. Coat the sponge fingers in your white chocolate. Then using some scissors cut your Barratt Black Jack into the shape of a nail. Sit the black nail into the hole on the sponge finger. The white chocolate will help the nail stick. Leave the witches fingers to set in the fridge.
Hack 2 - Spooky Ghosts
Ingredients
1 x Pack Of Cake Sticks or Lolly-Pop Sticks
1 x Pack Of White Chocolate
1 x Pack Of Chocolate Icing
1 x Pack Of Barratt Mini Flumps
Method
Stick your flump onto your stick. Then melt your white chocolate and coat all of the flumps with the white chocolate. Leave to set in the fridge. When they are set you draw on the ghostly faces using chocolate icing. Wooooooooooo. Be warned, they don’t float around for long!
Hack 3 - Zombie Brains Cupcakes
Ingredients
1 x Jar Of Strawberry Jam
1 x Tray Of Fairy Cakes
1 x Pack Of Barratt Mini Flumps
Method
Cover the top of a cupcake with strawberry jam. Take a Flump and cut it in half with scissors. Stick both sides on top of the jam and then drizzle some more jam over the top of the Flump and you have a hideous looking brain cupcake. Who knew that brains tasted so good?
Hack 4 - Creepy Crawly Cupcakes
Ingredients
1 x Tray Of Fairy Cakes
1 x Pot Of Ready-Made Icing
1 x Packet Of Biscuits
1 x Pack Of Fondant Icing
Icing pen Or Sugar Paper Eyes
1 x Pack of Barratt Wham Bamz Cosmic Jelly Beans
Method
Coat the top of the cake with some ready-made icing. Crush some biscuits and add this to the top of the icing. Then make your creepy crawly using some ready-made fondant. Add the eyes. You then need to add your Barratt Wham Bamz to the top of the cake. These are the eggs for the creepy crawly nest. You then sit the creepy crawly on top of the eggs!
Hack 5 - Monster Doughnuts
Ingredients
1 x Pack Of Doughnuts
1 x Pack Of White Chocolate (optional)
1 x Pack Of Milk Chocolate (optional)
1 x Pot Of Icing
Sugar Paper Eyes
1 x Pack Of Barratt Fruit Salad Sour Softies
1 x Pack Of Barratt Refresher Softies
1 x Barratt Wham
Method
Have fun here and come up with your own scary monster faces. You might want to melt some chocolate and dip the doughnuts into the chocolate. You should then let them set. You can then add some eyes using the Barratt Refresher Softies. You can also use the Barratt Wham bar for the tongue and the Barratt Fruit Salad Sour Softies for the teeth. Use the icing to stick the ingredients to the doughnut.
There you go. Five easy but terrifying Halloween hacks that will have everyone squealing in delight. Why don’t you go and conjure up your own terrifying Halloween hack using some Barratt sweets! Don’t forget to share your creations on twitter using the #BarrattHalloweenHacks

That spider went right down your top Emma! These are absolutely briliant - I’m off to buy some Barratts sweets tomorrow to mae some of these!
Yaaay, I hope you have fun making the Halloween goodies. As for that spider,
Hah! Fantastic! Some really cool ideas there for Halloween fun. I also like how simple they seem - we’ll be trying the sponge finger for sure! I’m also generally on board with anything that involves doughnuts! 😉

You’ve got some great idea here Emma. The spider one are very fun!
The spider one was my fave!
I must admit I’m “that family” that doesn’t answer the door!

What a fun thing to do with the little ones on Halloween! My two would have a making some spooky treats!
They are brilliantly easy to make too x
These are brilliant ideas. I also love that they are no bake. Takes the pressure off. With Big’s birthday in October I am normally done with making cakes by the time halloween gets here. We are going to give the ghosts a go. Love your little helpers in the video.
Ahh, thanks Claire! Even though they kept scaring the life out of me. I went for no bake as I find baking with the children mega stressful!
These look great. The spider is my favourite. I need to buy some Barratts sweets to try these.
Oh my word, how creative are you Emma? You have come up with some amazing snacks, I think the monster doughnuts are my favourite as they are so fun and pretty friendly looking. I’d never think to use a wham bar or black jacks! Fab hacks, Mich x
This is my idea of heaven! I love sweets and white chocolate and you basically have it all covered. We are going to a Halloween party with some friends and have to bring something. I’m now spoilt for choice on which one of these to make!
All of your treats came out brilliant, Emma! I love that some are quite easy to do, that’s right up my street. They are creepy looking but I bet they taste delicious! lol I too can’t manage anything above PG!! Too scary!
You have come up with some really creative Halloween hacks that not only look great, but I bet, taste amazing as well! I love Halloween and can’t wait to have the trick and treaters come round.
Wow these are AMAZING!!! We are going to a Halloween party on Tuesday after school and I might have a go at making these! x
These look amazing! Fun and effective, but EASY, just what I like! Love the witches fingers. Pinned for later! x

Those creepy crawly cupcakes are brilliant! I like all these ideas and I know Monkey would as well. Blackjacks remind me of my childhood though so I am not sure how many of those would actually make it to Halloween treats, as I suspect I would eat them all! x
