BBC Radio Jersey

I have some rather exciting news - I am going to be on the radio today. If you remember when I was last on BBC Radio Jersey, Charlie McArdle said that if I made it to the finals of the BiBs then I would have to come back on air and talk about it. Haha! I am sure that Charlie was really thrilled to receive my tweet telling that him that I was in the finals. Well I was fully expecting to have to politely ask/blackmail/nag Charlie into inviting me back in but there was no need as he is a man true to his word. Last time I prepared by overdosing on Alan Partridge. This time there will be no Partridge watching as it is half-term week and Oldest is at home. Therefore, I will be able to do absolutely zero preparation as I will be spending my morning fishing out Lego from the toilet whilst repeating the words,

 

“stop hitting your sister over the head with your wand”

 

and

 

“why is there chocolate all over your face? Oh good grief that is chocolate isn’t it?”

 

Yep, my hands will be full and therefore there will be zero preparation time. So I am going to have to just be myself. Yep, disaster written all over it.

 

In some other news I was invited to be on BBC Radio Jersey last Friday for their 3 at 3 slot. This is when you choose your favourite 3 songs. I was extremely excited by this news and set to the very important task of choosing my songs whilst ignoring useful tips from my mum on WhatsApp. Tips like

followed by

 

Never too early for a vodka and tonic. It’s 5pm somewhere in the world.

 

As it happened I didn’t need to use my mum’s words of wisdom because I never got the callback. I think that it was because I told them that I had to take Oldest to the dentist (all the glamour) and it may have clashed with the time they needed me to record the segment. Never fear though because I thought that I would share my music choices with you here.

 

• Song 1 was going to be ‘Time of my life’ Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes

 

 

I love a bit of cheese but this isn’t why I included the song. When I found out that I had been shortlisted I compared blogging to having the time of my life and I begged you not to put my bloggy in the corner and you listened! Yippee. I may have made rash promises of recreating this iconic dance at the BiBs if I made it to the finals. Hmmm. This song will forever remind me of the time that I was shortlisted. To be honest with you this is better than the previous memory I had with regards to this song. My grandma used to have this film on video and she loaned it to my mum and dad with the words

 

“oh you will love it, you can all watch it but make sure you cover Emma’s eyes at the part where Patrick gets jiggy”

 

I remember being stood between my grandma and dad as this conversation took place, eyeing up the freshly baked scones on top of the oven, when I heard the word jiggy”. I stood up on my tip-toes and pulled on my grandma’s apron, she bent down as I asked,

 

“Grandma, what is a jiggy?”

 

My grandma was temporarily flummoxed but not for long. My grandma was a woman who wasn’t often lost for words,

 

“well it’s when a man gives a lady a very lovely and special hug”.

 

Oh, I thought that sounded rather nice, I liked the sound of getting jiggy with it. In fact I became obsessed with getting jiggy and I was asking everyone for jiggies, the boy next door, the milkman and people in the queue for the bus. In the end my mum and dad had to sit me down and explain what my grandma had meant when she said Patrick was getting jiggy with it. I was mortified and I was unable to look the Vicar in the eye ever again. Made Sunday school quite awkward.

 

• Song 2 was going to be Muse (cover of Nina Simone) Feeling Good

 

 

So much to love about this song. The orignal is brilliant but then Muse came along and museified (yes, I’m inventing new words now). Muse are quite possibly one of the best bands that I have ever seen live. They are genius. This song reminds me of my teaching days, it reminds me of going to music festivals with Mr C, it reminds me of when I was young and I thought that I could conquer the world. It is a song that makes me gloriously happy and makes me want to sing along whilst playing my imaginary drums. Listen to this song and rock out!

 

• Song 3 now I am torn here. I could either go with Snow Patrol Chasing Cars for soppy reasons.

 

 

This is the song that reminds me of Mr C. It is our song, the song we fell in love to. Our unofficial first dance song at our wedding. I felt that I should have a song for Mr C because if it wasn’t for his support I wouldn’t be able to write this blog. Then I remembered my first love, my true love and sorry Mr C but you have been shoved aside for BLUR

 

Blur my very first love. Their faces were the wallpaper of my bedroom, I even had a life-size poster of Damon Albarn above my bed. Yes, his eyes were the last I used to see at night and the first I used to wake up to in the morning as he hung above me on my ceiling. Those were the days, Damon was dreamy and Alex seemed to have a permanent fag in his mouth. My first ever gig was a Blur one and for the whole gig I was mesmerised by Alex’s fag and how it was endless and how the ash never seemed to drop off. This was before I realised that smoking is a filthy habit and one that can kill you.

 

There you go, those would have been my 3/4 songs. You might say that the people of Jersey had a lucky escape. However, they won’t be able to escape me later. You will be able to listen to me on BBC Radio Jersey at 2:40. Tune in and keep those fingers crossed that I don’t make a complete tit of myself 🙂
