My Grandpa Book - Peppa Pig

As you are aware, we have recently returned from a trip to Norway with my mum and dad. The girls loved that they were able to spend a whole week with their granny and pop-pop. They had lots of adventures together and were spoilt rotten by their grandparents. A rather lot of chocolate muffins for breakfast and ice-cream for dinner were consumed by my girls to the very wise words from granny, ”Well they are on holiday, if you can’t do it on holiday then when can you?” It is the prerogative of grandparents to spoil though! I remember my granny used to have a plate on her kitchen wall that read,

“If mum and dad say no then ask granny who will always say yes”

On returning back home to Jersey my girls were really missing their grandparents so we were delighted when Penwizard got back in touch asking if we would like a copy of their ‘My Grandpa’ book. Of course we would. This was bound to help the girls who were really missing their pop-pop (or Grandpa).

My Grandpa book

Now last time we had a book from Penwizard it was just Youngest in the book. Oldest was not best pleased. Oldest does like to be the star of the show! As before, I went onto the Penwizard website and it was so easy to choose your characters and make them look just like their real-life versions. The girls and grandpa are very life-like. In fact grandpa is so life-like that my mum might have said it was quite “uncanny”. Once you have created your characters you put in the names of your children who are appearing in the story and then you can write a personalised message that appears at the start of the book.

Again the delivery of the book was fast and it arrived when Oldest was at school. As soon as Youngest spied what the postman had put through the letterbox she wanted to open it. For an easy life I gave in!

She was so excited when she realised that it was her book that she clambered onto the table (because obviously that is the place where we all sit to read a book – not). However, Youngest made herself comfortable on the hard table and set about reading her new book. Youngest was so excited to see that her sister was in the book with her too 🙂

Eventually, Youngest relented and got down from the table and sat in the more conventional seat to read her book. We then read the book together and Youngest found it really funny. She kept repeating “Oh silly Grandpa”. Youngest couldn’t wait to go and pick Oldest up from school and tell her all about the new book. As soon we arrived home from school we had to sit and read the book together again.

Now Oldest is one very cool customer but she did not play it cool when it came to this book. There were definite squeals as well as general shouting of “’Fame at last” and mutterings of how she was going to tell everyone in the school playground that she was famous. Yes, fame had gone to Oldest’s head. Predictably.

They really enjoyed reading the book together and it was really sweet to see Oldest reading to Youngest. The fact that the font is bold and clear makes it really easy for little ones to read and follow. There isn’t too much text on each page so it wouldn’t be too daunting for an older child to read it to their younger sister or brother. The illustrations are really lovely and bright too.

As it is a hardback book it is perfect for my preschooler. Youngest does like to lug her books around everywhere and I have no doubt that this will become another well-travelled book. Let’s not forget that the last book went to Norway and back. This is another lovely personalised book from the Penwizard series. It arrived at the perfect time for the girls as they were missing their grandpa. As a result this is their new favourite bedtime read. My only concern about the book is that Oldest now thinks she is famous and therefore picking up her clothes from her bedroom floor is beneath her,

“urm Mummy, I’m in a book, don’t you know”

Oh yes, I know!
