My Slow Motion Weekend

Last week saw me complete week 3 of the Make Films course run by Xanthe Berkeley. I now feel like things are slowly starting to fall into place. Slowly being the key word as this week filming was all about slow motion. However, I wasn’t slow at editing, if anything I was much quicker! I really enjoyed the whole editing process this week too. I think it helped that I knew what music I wanted to use as a soundtrack, therefore, I didn’t waste hours trying to find the right track.

As I mentioned earlier we were focussing on slow motion in our film making. I used my iPhone again, I love the fact that I can shoot really good quality films on my phone. This is perfect for me because I always have my phone on me and with a crazy threenager to control I don’t want to be lugging around anything extra like a big camera to film on. The weather has been mixed this week, I would have liked bright sunshine but instead I was filming on some very grey days. However, the sun did come out on the Sunday and I made the most of this and tried to film as much as I could.

Xanthe explained that it is best to shoot in slow motion rather than slowing it down during the editing process. It is really easy to film in slow motion on the iPhone as this function is already set-up for you but you can make it even slower by going into the settings. In the slow motion film we were only supposed to use close-up or medium shots. I really loved filming in slow motion because the film becomes all about the small details. You find yourself focussing on things that you might not have noticed if the film had been shot at regular speed.

Now we were supposed to put ourselves into the film this week and I went and forgot about that little detail - honest. However, I will aim to do better this week. The film was supposed to reflect “taking a moment” and as the film is a minute long I have tried to collate several examples of us all taking a moment over the weekend.

Here is our film of what we got up to over the weekend. As always it involved several trips to the park, biscuits and a car show all squeezed into a one minute film. I hope you enjoy it and I would love to know what you think 🙂

I hope that you had fun at the weekend. What did you get up to?
