Kids’ Bedroom Wishlist From George At Asda

Do you remember when we bought the girls a bunk bed and promised them the bedroom of their dreams? I have the Pinterest boards to prove this. Then the bunk beds arrived. We spent the morning putting the beds together; several fingers were nearly lost in the process! As a result, the kids’ dream bedroom went on hold. I did manage to put some paint samples on the wall but the bedroom is still waiting to be finished. We have been needing a bit of a push/kick up the bum to get the girls’ bedroom finished. The girls really do deserve a lovely bedroom, so when George Home at Asda, asked me to take part in their ‘Children’s Bedroom Challenge’, I (and the girls) jumped at the chance! They gave us the imaginary budget of £400 for us to design the kids’ bedroom of our dreams. The girls were very excited about this. First of all, the girls told me what they felt they should have in their dream bedroom.

I was really surprised by our chat, and not just because it appears Youngest is desperate for a bunny rabbit! It is fair to say that there will be no live bunny rabbits going into the girls’ bedroom. No, I was surprised because their suggestions were actually quite sensible. I was also relieved because it appears that they have finally left the Frozen era behind. Yaaay! The girls have now moved onto Paw Patrol. This is very good news. Finally, my ears can recover from the never-ending renditions of ‘Let it Go’ 😉 . Paw Patrol is an animated series in which a boy called Ryder, leads a pack of dogs known as the Paw Patrol. They work on various missions to protect the city called Adventure Bay.

As this is the girls’ bedroom, I handed over all control to them. I expected lots of arguments as they perused the George at Home website. They might share a bedroom but they are very different characters. Oldest likes nothing better than playing with her styling head and making things. Youngest likes nothing better than playing with her cars, building forts and destroying things. However, they managed to meet in the middle with their mutual love for Paw Patrol. It also helped that the George range is very extensive and reasonably priced. We soon discovered that the £400 budget goes a long way. In fact we didn’t manage to spend all of the budget, despite the girls having free rein!

As you can see from our mood board, Oldest has discovered a love for the colour pink. However, Youngest is not so keen on the colour pink. As a result, we came up with a pink, white and grey colour scheme. This classic colour scheme will tie everything together and stop the bedroom from becoming too cutesy. Grey and pink is such a sophisticated duo that it should be a colour scheme that doesn’t date. This colour scheme also helps unite the girls’ slightly eclectic tastes. The idea is to have a light grey feature wall, this will help create a lovely soothing space and, therefore help with bedtime: I hope!

Grey and pink is a classic colour combination.

Not everything in the room is Paw Patrol based; this means that we will be able to adapt the girls’ bedroom, and make changes as they get older and as their interests change. The Paw Patrol products are all very inexpensive so can be changed easily. The girls are very lucky as they have a large bedroom. However, they don’t have any real storage for their toys or books. Therefore, storage was at the top of our list. Oldest has always wanted a reading corner too. The bean bags and shelves would allow us to create a reading corner easily. Oldest would also like her own space to do her homework which is why she chose the desk. She loved the desk because it has a lift-up lid where she can store all of her work and pens.

The girls have done a great job in the challenge and they have created a brilliant bedroom. Do you like their ‘Potty about Paw Patrol bedroom?’ As I mentioned earlier, the whole bedroom cost a lot less than the £400 budget. If the girls actually won the challenge, and were able to create this bedroom, then there would be woofing (sorry poor Paw Patrol dog pun) for joy. I would also be a very happy mummy as their bedroom would have storage. This would mean no more chasing of my tail (sorry another poor dog pun) when it came to tidy-up time! If you are in need of some home decor inspiration then go and check out the George at Home website. You can also check out my Pinterest boards where I have collected lots of ideas.

If you are a blogger then you too can take part in this fantastic challenge. You can find details here. Also check out #GeorgeousRoomChallenge on Twitter for further inspiration.

Finally, in the words of Oldest, “we hope that we win”. My two girls are really yapping 😉 for a new bedroom.

  • I love the pink, white and grey colour scheme and Paw Patrol sounds exactly like the kind of thing I would have loved. I’m so out of touch with what children like these days but even the Frozen craze didn’t pass me by so I can understand why you’re relieved they’re moving on 🙂 X #HomeEtc

  • What fabulous ideas! Our little one is very much into Paw Patrol at the moment too so I was pleased to see just how much stuff there is out there at the moment on your mood board. Pink and grey is one of my favourite colour combinations, your girls have good taste 😉 Thanks for sharing this on #MarvMondays, I love the sound of the George challenge, how fun! Emily

  • Grey and pink is a fab combination and one that should keep them both happy and grow with them. I remember a bedroom with a similar colour scheme in my teens and it felt very grown up (sorry they are still little and will be for ages!) Glad they were able to find some middle ground too - good luck getting it done 🙂 #homeetc
