You might remember that last year I announced I was going to decorate the girls’ bedroom. We purchased the bunk-beds, assembled them and then that was as far as we got with it all until a year later when we finally all agreed on a theme for the bedroom - grey and white with stars.
As their room is so large I felt that the room could take a feature wall in grey. Grey is very on trend at the moment, in fact it is fast becoming the new magnolia. However, I also felt that this colour combination was one that wouldn’t date quickly. I wanted to create a room that would grow with the girls. I paired the grey wall with white walls and furniture (you can see my post on upcycling) for a Scandinavian feel. We then added a star pattern. I decided that by limiting the pattern to stars I could easily change this at some point in the future.
We are delighted with the finished look of the girls’ bedroom as it has created a space of real calm and serenity. The girls now have a bedroom that feels like their perfect haven. Using different tones of grey on the wall and on the bedding means that the colour theme does not feel monotonous. We managed to achieve the girls’ new bedroom for less than £150. The most expensive item was the storage from Ikea. However, it was really worth it as the room now feels less cluttered.
How we did it
Walls
We created a grey feature wall. We went for Dulux Bathroom Plus Frosted Steel - Soft. This is actually meant for bathrooms and kitchens. However, we loved the colour and also it is more durable. Therefore, it should be easier to wipe down. The grey feature wall added personality to the room and a real wow factor. We then painted the rest of the room in Dulux Trade Supermatt White.
Stars for the wall
We purchased some stars for the wall from Not on the High Street.com. These were by Minna’s Room and were only £12 for 30 stars. They also come in a variety of colours, we went for black. They were extremely easy to apply, you simply peel and apply to the wall.
Artwork for the wall
Let’s go on an adventure print from Not on the High Street.com by Monat & Bag. I love this monochrome print and it was a bargain at £8.50. It adds a stylish finish to the wall and works with the theme of stars and reaching for the stars.
Lightbox
I have been looking for an excuse for purchasing a lightbox and the girls’ room gave me the perfect one. They add a funky touch to a room. We purchased ours from Amazon for about £15
Floor
The girls already had a good carpet in brown, it would have been better in grey but we can’t have everything! At some point we might look into getting a large grey and white rug to go on the floor.
Furniture
The girls already had their bunk beds from last year. I upcycled some of their old furniture so that it would fit in with the new room. We also purchased some new storage from Ikea for £53. We kept the furniture white for the Scandinavian feel.
Soft furnishings
Duvet and pillow set
To tie the whole star and grey theme together, we went for these gorgeous duvet sets from GLTC At the moment they are retailing for £37. However, we managed to purchase them in one of their flash sales. It is worth subscribing to their site so that you are notified of the sales. The quality of the duvet is lovely and it is 100% cotton.
Bunting
We purchased some grey bunting to finish the bunkbeds. This too was from GLTC in the sale. At the moment you can purchase it for £15
The verdict
The girls are thrilled with their new bedroom. We have created a light and bright bedroom with the wow factor. The room now really shines and the girls have a bedroom that they now want to spend time in. I am even tempted to claim this space for my room! The girls have a lovely streamlined room that is easier to keep tidy as it now has plenty of storage.
I am delighted with how this room has turned out.

I just love it! So simple and stylish, love the outdoorsy feel. And in my opinion you can never go wrong with stars!!! x
