I was delighted when the lovely team at Green People got in touch and asked if we would like to try some of their sun lotion. Anybody that reads this blog will realise that as a family we spend a lot of time outdoors and particularly at the beach. As a result we get through a lot of sun lotion. However, we have to be really careful because Oldest burns easily and Youngest and I suffer from really sensitive skin.
Organic Children Sun Lotion SPF30 – £17.50 for 150ml
When it comes to the girls I normally smother then in SPF50. However, Green people sent me factor SPF30 and there is a very good reason for that. We might think that factor SPF50 offers double the protection of SPF30 but we would be wrong! SPF50 offers 98% protection and SPF30 offers 97%. That is just one percent difference. I was amazed to read this. Also when we apply SPF5o there can be a tendency to reapply the sun cream less frequently (guilty) and also stay out in the sun for longer (guilty again). In fact to get good UVA defence we must regularly top up our protection no matter what the factor!
Now Youngest is very prone to rashes, so much so that we have to be really careful with detergent powder, bubble bath and body creams. Green People sun lotion is full of lots of lovely nice things and none of the nasty synthetic chemicals. The sun lotion contains Aloe Vera, Myrrh, Chamomile as well as antioxidants and vitamins found in Avocado and Green Tea. Sounds almost good enough to eat. We found the sun lotion really easy to apply and it was absorbed into the skin quickly. We spent the whole afternoon in the sun, even dipping our toes in the sea and both of the girls were completely fine. There was no sign of burning from Oldest and Youngest didn’t have a reaction to the lotion. Brilliant.
Scent Free Sun Lotion SPF30 – £21.00 for 200ml
I suffer from not very attractive rashes on my legs and as soon as the sun comes out I like to whip my legs out because the sunlight seems to help with the rash. However, because of the rash I have to be careful what type of lotion I put on my legs as some have been known to irritate my legs and make the rash really itchy. I was really happy to read that the Green People’s lotions support the skin’s immune system and that it protects against irritation and cell damage that causes premature ageing. Anything that protects against premature ageing is a win in my book!
The lotion contains extracts of Edelweiss which is a plant that lives at altitudes of between 2,000 and 3,000 meters where light levels are very strong. The extracts of Edelweiss contain high levels of antioxidants which have been shown in trials to extend cell life when exposed to free radical activity. The lotion also has Green Tea, now I know it is very good to drink but in the lotion Green Tree also helps protect against oxidative damage. Amongst other goodies the lotion also contains Rosemary which is fantastic for its anti-inflammatory properties and therefore perfect for my sensitive and sore legs! Again we were very impressed. The lotion did not irritate my legs, it was easy to apply and the skin absorbed it quickly.

Sounds fabby! Might have to try (hey green people! Hit me up! :D) I hate sun lotion usually it seems so chemically! Great review xxx
It really is lovely sun lotion and no nasties in it!! 🙂
Sunscreen is so important! I love that this came in the different sizes. That way you had no excuse not to have any with you. Thank you for sharing a new product with us today! Popping back over to visit you after you visited me 🙂 #KCACOLS
Thank you lovely, yes sun cream is vital! 🙂
Looking for a new sun lotion that won’t get in the kid’s eyes and cause the end of the world… Might just give these a try 🙂
This might just work! My kids are very fussy but they were happy with it :- )x
Of course, as an ex-pharmacist I am always banging on about sunscreen for Rich and the kids. I have it built into my facial moisturiser too.
Greenpeople’s is a little on the pricey side for me though. We have found the Nivea products to be kind to our skin and effective, especially the sprays as the girls prefer them to the heavier creams.
And commentluv likes me today!
Ahh I haven’t tried Nivea but I am really happy with Green People and the fact that it doesn’t irritate mine or Youngest’s skin is a big plus for us :- )
It’s so important to put sun cream on the kids whilst the weather is warm/hot! I actually bought a new bottle yesterday! #MarvMondays
It is, but sometimes when it is cloudy you might assume that you don’t need it, which would be wrong and something I have been guilty of in the past! Thanks for your comment 🙂
Oo interesting fact about SPF 50 versus SPF 30 – I never knew that and I am guilty too of not applying 50 regularly enough. A wonderful review and I’m very tempted to check them out – love the fact that they give a percentage of profits to the Marine Conservation Society #MarvMondays lovely photos too xx
That fact about SPF actually made me shout “no way”. Can you believe that?! They are really lovely sun lotions and I love that they are giving something back too. Thanks for your lovely comment 🙂 x
Hi JUSTSAYINGMUM, we would love to send you over some of our gorgeous non-toxic organic sun lotion for you to try, just pop me an email at romy@greenpeople.co.uk
My little girl also suffers from rashes when exposed to the sun, it’s great to know that Green People sun Lotion is one possible solution for her skin problem. Sun cream is definitely a must when going out in sunny weather. #mg
Yes sun cream really is a must and sun hats too. Thanks for your lovely comment 🙂
We have sensitive skin too, I find my kids are Ok for a few days, but if we are on holiday and need long periods of time with lotion on they get rashes. In Australia we get a lot of hot days in a row, so we try to stay out of the sun a lot during the summertime. Finding the right lotion is so important and I didn’t know that it was only a 1% difference either! Thanks for sharing with #mg
I know, can you believe that there is only 1% difference?! I was amazed to read that:-) x
Love the sound of these sun lotion products. I’ve come across Green People products previously at John Lewis, but never actually tried them before. Our little one suffers from very senstive skin also, so it sounds like this could be a perfect product for her so we may well give this a go this year! Thanks for sharing this on #MarvMondays. Emily
They are fab suncreams 🙂
I am on the look out for good sun lotions, as we will be moving to Bali for a few months. And I do prefer my products to be organic. These creams definitely tick my boxes 🙂
