Review and unboxing of the Leesa mattress

November 21, 2016

I was delighted when Leesa got in contact and asked if we would like to review their Leesa mattress.

Who and what are Leesa?

  • Leesa offer customers a revolutionary new way to buy a mattress - online! No lying awkwardly in a shop for 20 seconds as a salesperson watches

  • Buy with confidence because you have 100 nights to see if you are sleeping better. If not, they will provide you with a full refund

  • Leesa make mattresses with three foam layers (15cm core support, 5cm contouring support, 5cm cooling foam)

  • Leesa gives back to the community. Their one-ten programme donates one mattress for every ten sold. They have also announced that they will donate a minimum of 300 mattresses to support homeless shelters in London.

Why we wanted to try a Leesa mattress

We have had some concerns about Oldest and her sleeping. From the day she was born she has never slept well. Oldest’s nickname is Maggie, as in Maggie Thatcher, who famously only needed 4 hours of sleep a day. However, we have noticed that Oldest’s lack of sleep has been taking its toll a little bit. By the end of the school day she would be VERY grumpy, irritable and just not her usual happy self. We were so worried about it that we even took her to the doctors who referred her to the hospital, who in turn prescribed her a steroid spray for her. That seems to have helped a little, although Oldest has still been moaning that her mattress was “sticking into her” and she was still having very fitful, light sleeps.

Why is sleep so important for children?

Sleep is very important for our children’s wellbeing and it has a direct impact on both their physical and mental wellbeing. The children’s bedroom is conducive to a good night’s sleep in that it is dark, cool and quiet. There is no TV or computer in their bedroom and we have a regular bedtime routine. However, I had overlooked the importance of a good mattress. We became more aware that this might be having an impact on Oldest’s sleep too.

What was Oldest’s old mattress like?

Oldest’s old mattress was a spring-based mattress and despite it only being 5 years old, it had seen better days. The spring was even sticking out at one end. Leesa offered us the opportunity to try their mattress in return for an honest review. Leesa was founded with one goal - to help people sleep better. This was like music to my ears! We chose a standard single for Oldest. There are other sizes available. It was so easy to order online, built to order in 3 to 5 working days and shipped in 1-2 working days. Because Leesa are an online company they are able to deliver luxury mattresses for a third of the price of luxury brands that operate in stores. I was really excited for Oldest to try the Leesa mattress as there are no springs and I suspected the springs were the cause of the problem. Best of all was that I could buy the mattress with confidence. Leesa say that if you are not sleeping better on a Leesa mattress within 100 nights, they will donate the mattress to a charitable organisation and provide a full refund.

The new Leesa mattress

It is 3 layers of foam that adjust to your body to provide optimum support and comfort. As a result it provides support and pressure relief to help your body rest and recover. Their mattresses have the benefits of a memory foam without the disadvantages of “sleeping hot”

Our unboxing and review of the Leesa mattress

Now, the mattress arrived quickly in a box. Oldest loved this and couldn’t believe that her mattress was inside the box. We made a short vlog in which you can see what happens when you unbox the mattress. It is a very clever and cool mattress. Below is what the mattress looks like when you first get it out of the box, watch the vlog to see what happens next. We all went WOW!

Our thoughts about the Leesa mattress so far

How amazing is that mattress? It is such a deep mattress. I’m not going to lie, I now want one for our bed. Youngest thought it was brilliant. Such a clever idea how it comes in a box and then quickly expands. Oldest is completely over the moon with her mattress. She could tell the difference between her two mattresses straight away. As I said in the film I am almost guilt-ridden about the fact she had previously had such an uncomfortable mattress. That old mattress is a well-known named brand too, which is why we would have bought that one. Last night Oldest couldn’t wait to go to bed. Very unlike her! When we went to bed we checked on Oldest and (touch wood) she did seem to be sleeping well. However, it is still very early days. Come back in a couple of days where I will be sharing my and Oldest’s thoughts on the Leesa mattress and whether it has helped Oldest with her sleeping.

What a nice mattress and how cool is it that it expands once in the right place. One of the most annoying things about mattresses is having to get them through doors and up stairs and they are just a nightmare to maneuver. This looks really great x

My oldest is 10 and we are having huge sleeping issues! She too has always been a bad sleeper but it seems to have gotten worse now we are hitting puberty. I hadn’t thought about changing her mattress- might be worth a thought! #ablogginggoodtime

Ooo, we have this mattress on our bed and love it. I used to have bad back pain but it’s reduced so much in the past year after we reviewed the Leesa one. We’re thinking of getting singles for the boys’ rooms, too.

  • This bank holiday weekend has mostly been a washout, with rain, rain and more rain. In other news I have now completed my final long walk before the Moonwalk Marathon London. 20 miles on the treadmill was pretty tedious but it's done now! Whoop! Less than 2 weeks to go now 😬
