Our new house is very different from our last rental property. Our rental house was a character property which was flooded with light. It was a very difficult decision to leave it behind but we realised that we needed to get on the property ladder. Where we are now living could end up being our forever home but it isn’t really the kind of home we would have chosen had we had a bigger budget. Unfortunately, for us a character home would have been well out of our budget. However, we were very lucky to be able to afford a fantastic, very modern, new build. We feel very special as we are the first people to live in the house. However, because of this all of the walls are painted in the very boring standard white. This is something I am desperate to change.
The first room we have decided to tackle is our open plan living/kitchen/dining room. It is a room that doesn’t get much light and as a result I am craving some sunshine, especially at the moment when it is just raining constantly. I have decided that grey and yellow would work really well in this space, especially as the units in our kitchen are grey and white. I would love to paint a feature wall in a really bright yellow as I think it will lift the room and give it some much needed personality.
I am obsessed with Farrow and Ball paint as I love their range of yellows. Only problem is that their paints aren’t easy to come by where we live. The palette above is perfect for our room. The Manor House Grey is very similar to what colour our kitchen units are.
I also love the above yellow which is vibrant and fun whilst being sophisticated. This would be perfect for the feature room in the dining space. Our new build also feels very stark and I like the idea of bringing lots of textures into the living room area to make it feel more cosy and homely.
Pops of yellow in the living room area would tie in with the dining area. Yellow can be used sparingly to create a sophisticated look when used against a grey backdrop. I am on the hunt for a cosy type throw for our family to snuggle under when watching films on these cold, dark nights.
I also like the idea of introducing yellow onto a white wall with wall art. This could really work for us as we already have some wall art with yellow in it.
We are also in desperate need of storage in the living room area. I love how this book case has been bought to life with a lick of yellow paint. Simple yet really effective.
I have already been on the hunt for yellow accessories for the living room and I managed to find some cushions in a lovely vibrant yellow from BHS which are now in their sale.
We could also do with some extra seating for when we have guests to stay and this yellow pouffe would be perfect.
Then I just need to find some yellow accessories for the kitchen to tie everything in and to help make the kitchen feel brighter and lighter. This can be done easily with yellow tea towels, bowls etc.
I can’t wait to start decorating this weekend and say hello to yellow!
I am obsessed with mustard, our living room is mustard and purple and it is my favourite! x

That sounds lovely! I can’t wait to finish our living room this weekend. Had so many tester paints, our wall is covered in a patchwork of different yellows, (who knew there were so many yellows) and we are now raring to go.
