Exciting new community website - Yo Mummy

When you’re a new mum you have these grand plans. You want to join all of the baby classes and also meet up with other new mummies. However, achieving this can be really tricky. Especially when you are sleep deprived from either being pregnant or from caring for your newborn. It can also be tricky if you just have moved somewhere new. When I first moved to Jersey I spent hours trying to find new classes, trawling all of the different websites for baby sensory, baby massage and baby signing. Those were just a few of the classes that I had on my very long list! When you are in the midst of baby fog, with baby sick on your shoulder and big bags under your eyes, finding a baby class can be difficult. However, it is important as a new mummy that you find classes as they help you connect with other mummies. It is always nice to know that you are not alone when you find it a challenge just to get showered in the morning. Yo Mummy (Yomummy.com) is a brand new community website that will help end the difficulties of finding new classes and meeting new mummies.

The lovely people at Yo Mummy contacted me last week to say hello and to introduce me to their new prototype for their community website. After exploring their website I decided that I wanted to help them to get the word out. The aim of Yo Mummy is to help mums and mums to be, easily discover activities, classes and events in their area. There is a huge array of classes and activities on offer. For the mum to be you can find anything from pre-natal pilates to belly painting. For the new mum there is anything from baby sing-and-sign to weaning classes.

The website is really easy to navigate. You select where you live and then you can filter your results on whether you are looking for prenatal or postnatal service. You can then filter again according to what type of class/activity you are looking for. The results are then displayed clearly in list form and also on a map, so you can easily see where they are in relation to where you live.

At the moment Yo Mummy is only covering Brighton and London (with new businesses being added everyday). They now plan to roll this out to the rest of the UK in the coming months. The website is also free to use, and therefore easily accesssed by all. Yo Mummy passionately believes in empowering mums by helping them connect with other local mums and businesses. Now in one click you can find a wide-range of recommended handpicked services.

“Yo Mummy is a community website with the aim of helping, supporting and reaching out to pregnant, and new mums over the course of their pregnancy and early motherhood.”

This website almost makes me want to have another baby so that I can try some of these amazing classes 😉 Not that I need an excuse to have another baby. Now let’s see, if I lived in London….Bach to Baby perhaps? Buggy Belles?

If you are in London or Brighton then you should head over to Yomummy.com and take a look at what is on in your area. If you live outside these areas then you can go to the website and add your email and postcode. Yo Mummy will then email you when they cover your area.

  • This sounds like a really great idea. As a new mummy of a 5 month old I would love something like this in my area - Cornwall. I’d imagine it would be a while before it is rolled out down this way! I only found out about the baby sensory class I go to through a baby show. So a website like this would be useful all over xx

  • I think I have already seen the Yo Mummy website, and just like you I have been convinced of how great an idea this is! My town isn’t the best at being organised and there isn’t a singular place to go on the lookout for baby groups! In fact, half of them don’t have any kind of pages (other than maybe Facebook) and are therefore extremely hard to find!

It’s a great idea! Lucy xx
